At Rio Brazil, the U.S. team was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Her debut appearance at the FIFA Women's World Cup took place in the year 2011. Her participation contributed to in helping the U.S. Women's World Cup achieve successive titles between 2015 and the year 2019. The team was awarded cocaptain status in the year 2018. Rapinoe had the chance to score two goals in the United States beat Australia 4-3 in the bronze-medal game during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Japan had been prevented from attending to the Olympics until 2021 due the COVID-19 Pandemic.
